The name resembles, though solely by coincidence, “Harpy Eagle” (Harpia harpyja). It’s an endangered species native to central and South America, residing in rainforests. Its wingspan is shorter than most but that enables it to fly in dense canopies to catch monkeys. It only lays 2 eggs but unlike typical eagles, who watch from the sidelines while the (usually) first eaglet pecks, starves or pushes his sibling out of the nest, they don’t brood the second egg upon the first one hatching. It’s merely a spare, like prince Harry. If eaglet 1 is weak, sick, killed by predator, etc, the other one will be favored. Though, any predator usually goes for the weakest prey. Through modern conservation efforts, hopefully the second chicks are being cared for by humans, who have cut down the rainforest and have taken their habitat from them.
