This name can also be a feminine name as a variant of Jamie.

In the USA, it was given as a name to 146 girls in 1976.
In the UK, it was also given to 5 girls in 1998. [noted -ed]
Like always, I can't find a single name derived from James that's good enough for me. Jamey is so weak and common with a too soft and sweet sound; for a girl it is a perfect name, but for a man it sounds strange to my ears; that's my opinion. The nicknames derived from Jacob, that's in fact the original version of James, are much better than the ones derived from James.
I like this as a different spelling of "Jamie" because I like the name for a girl, but the "Jamie" spelling seems masculine to me.
I really like this name, it's almost the same as Jamie but I prefer this spelling.
