French Christians, especially Catholics, will sometimes use the given name Jean (1) for female children (alongside Jeanne), honoring Saint John the Baptist. And no, I am not confusing this name, Jean (1), with Jean (2). However, Jean (1) is more common for males. So, I think that the "Gender" of this name should be updated from "Masculine" to "Masculine & Feminine"; and the "Meaning & History" section of this name should be updated to read, "Modern French form of Jehan, the Old French form of Iohannes (see John). Jean is also occasionally used as a feminine given name (alongside Jeanne), honoring Saint John the Baptist. Since the 12th century it has consistently been the most common male name in France. It finally dropped from the top rank in 1958, unseated by Philippe.
The French philosophers Jean-Jacques Rousseau (1712-1778) and Jean-Paul Sartre (1905-1980) were two well-known bearers of this name. It was also borne by the German-French Dadaist artist Jean Arp (1886-1966)."Sources: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unisex_name

Jean is a very common name in France. It is apparently the #1 name given to boys born in the 20th century. It's popularity is very similar to that of its English counterpart, John- it was extremely popular for many years, but has begun a decrease in popularity in recently. Also like John, it's a very strong, traditional name that well never truly go out of style and fits all ages =)
The name Jean was given to 190 baby boys born in the US in 2012. It's currently more popular as a masculine name.
This is also a masculine name in Romania.
