Meaning & History

The name is comprised of two parts. The first, ריב (rib), means "to strive" or "to contend". The second, י (yod) has three possible meanings. It can make the word into an adjective, it can be a possessive form (usually "my"), or it can be a shortened form of Yahweh. Together, the name is said to mean "contentious" or "Yahweh contends".

In the Bible, Jeribai is one of David's warriors. He is the son of Elnaam and the brother of Joshaviah. He is only mentioned once, in 1 Chronicles 11:46.
