Meaning & History

Perhaps an altered form of Legarda (itself a medieval form of Leutgard, recorded in England in 1222) influenced by Lelia. This name was borne by Bertha Lelgarde (née Rawdon-Hastings), Baroness Grey de Ruthyn (1835-1887), a member of the British nobility, and by her daughter, the Hon. Lelgarde Clifton (1870-1939).
