Great name! Personally, I think I prefer Louise over Eloise or Louisa because it has a slightly more reserved, no-frills sound. I absolutely love that it originates from both the French name Louis and the Germanic name Ludwig. It's a nice blend of French elegance and German discipline.
I think Louise is a beautiful name. Graced with an elegant French charm, a powerful meaning (“famous in battle”), and a vintage flair, it is simply stunning. It is classy and timeless, yet modern and chic. It belonged to one of my best childhood friends, which has (unbiasedly) contributed to my opinion of the name. Overall, I think Louise is a gorgeous moniker, and it is one that I have always treasured.
"Geez Louise"Okay jokes aside Louise is a pretty okay name not good, but not bad either.
Lovely.
Jean Louise Finch from To Kill a Mockingbird is who I think of when I see this name.
I can see this name making a gradual comeback. I like it as a middle name.
Out of Louisa, Eloise and Louise my favorite is always Louise! It's a goddamn beautiful timeless classic and I am such a fan of the feminist writer and campaigner Louise Perry.
I don't like Louise for a boy because it's a feminine version of Louis it's so ridiculous. I like Louise for a girl because it's so cute and pretty. :)
Sooooo pretty! I love it both as first and middle name and it can age so well! I definitely recommend it!
Louise is a really good name.:)
I can't imagine this name on anyone under 40. It's just as dated as Vivian.
This is my first name along with both of my grandmother's, it goes along really well with my first name, Aubrey, and is classy and elegant at the same time, love it!
This name looks a lot more quality when used as a first name! Most names who are too often used as middle names, just losing their charm and beauty! Louise is a good name as a first name, but as middle name it's becoming boring!
I love it as a middle and first.
My middle name, though I think it's pretty as a first name.
My hyphenated name. Very pretty, elegant first and middle name, it’s unusual as a first name, but traditional as a middle name, which is just as good as being unusual.
Old lady name!
Love this as a main name.
I work with a Louise in her mid 60s. Nice lady, but this kind of ruined the name here!
Louise is a very cute name!
I love Louise (and am perhaps a little biased as it's my own middle name). While it does sound a bit old fashioned, it has a sense of grace and refinement to it. To some it may sound like it belongs on a Little House on the Prairie character, but I don't think that's a bad thing. It sounds strong, but also beautiful. Louise is someone who has her life together.
Lovely.
Cute name.
This is a very, very recent love of mine. I used to steer clear of Louise because I perceived it to be very "dated" (i.e. old). However, I recently encountered a woman my age, maybe a bit younger (mid-20s), with Louise as her first name, and suddenly it became... fresh. Especially as a first name!Louisa is very nice, as well, though a little "fancier."
Louise is a very lovely name. Don't ruin it by calling her Lou or Lulu.
This is an old woman's name. I worked with a girl named Louise in her 20's and the name just didn't suit her. She was laid back and free-spirited. She was more like a Jenna than a Louise.
Please please find another name or at least use it as middle name or with an at the end.
I’ve never much liked this name; I feel like it’s been overused too much (even if it isn’t popular now) and it’s not that pretty anyway. But I can see it making an okay middle name.
I love names that sound a bit more old, like Edith, Louise, Ann, and such. Especially Louise, plus she can be Lulu or Lou.
I love my name, Louise. I am in my 60s and I still like it. My grandmother was Louisa, and my daughter and grand daughter have Louise as a second name. Thanks Mum and Dad.
My name and I like it very much. I have only met one other Louise in my life, so it is very unique. Mine is a very pretty name: Louise Marie. My sisters are named Jean and Joan, and I was supposed to be Jacqueline. But, my father, Joe, put his foot down! My maiden name sounds French, so Louise Marie was it. Lou, Lulu, Lulu-belle, Weezie, Weez, Weezer, Weezir, it's all good, so long as it is not Lousie! (PS my late husband's name was Louis--what fun that was!)
I hate this name. It is my most hated girls name. It is so old-fashioned and boring.
I have always hated my name; never felt like it suited me. My parents named me after all the Louisa's in our family but wanted my name to be a little different. It always felt to me like the name was too "ladylike" for me, I'm a bit of a tomboy. But now that I am in my 60's I am starting to feel more comfortable with my name... except when I am called "Louis" at the doctor's or other places where you have to write your name on a call list. The US government even sent me paperwork for the selective service because THEY thought I was a male!
W's daughter just gave birth to another daughter whom she named Poppy Louise. I think we will see this name become popular again, for a little while. I would love to, just ONCE, find a coffee mug, t-shirt, poster, something with my name on it... one time, when I was looking for a shirt with Louise on it, at Macy's in S.F., in the '70's, the clerk told me my name was too old fashioned so it wouldn't be there. My heart sunk... I wanted to be like the popular names but now... I kind of like being unique. No one forgets my name nor confuses me with one of the other Sarahs, Katies, Chris's, Jennifers, Mary Annes, Janices, Emiliys, Ashleys, Erins, Elizabeths, Sandras... you get my point. Thanks for letting me share... that felt good.
This name runs in my family. My ancestor, Louis, brought our family over to America over a hundred years ago. My grandmother, Linda, has Louise, the feminine form of Louis, as a middle name, which she passed down to my mother, Traci. I was supposed to have this middle name as well, but my middle name is Kate. If I have a daughter, her middle name will be Louise and if a boy, his middle name will be Louis. Sounds cheesy, I know, but I want to pass down both of these names.
The name Louise is so cool and classy! :DD.
Very nice sounding and classy name:-) Only prob is that it rhymes with words like cheese, fleas, sneeze, and bees.
Lulu is a cute nickname for Louise!
Despite being very popular at one point in the US, the name Louise has since fallen out of the top 1000. It was only given to 152 baby girls in 2012.
Aw, this isn't even in the top 1000 anymore! That's kind of sad. I like this name, I can't really find a good reason why, I just like the way it sounds. And it's a good middle name for Marie.
I've always found the name Louise a bit snobbish, even as a middle name, and it's a bit of a filler these days, anyway.
It is tired and dull as a middle name, but I love it as a first name. Louise is sleek, sophisticated, and feminine without being a bit frilly.
Lovely name but I wouldn't use it as my child's name... but I like it! Maybe as a middle name... reminds me of a polite young lady.
Not very feminine sounding to me.
Because it's my middle name I see it as a middle name - it really goes with almost anything.
I was named after an Ada Louisa.
I don't like the "loo" or the "eez." Louisa is a softer, more elegant name, as is Eloisa (eh-lo-ee-sa, as I pronounce it).
I actually rather like this, but could never use it because two members of my family have it as a middle name and I know lots of other people who have it as theirs as well! It seems to have been very popular as a middle name in the 1980s! I also knew several Louises at school. Not that it would put me off particularly, it's just that it's a bit over-used.
I don't like this name, it's actually quite ugly. The 'lou' part is an informal way of saying toilet which is quite horrible to have in a name and the 'weez' sound reminds me of something quite obvious. Sorry but this is all I can think when I hear this name!
I named my four year old Louise, after my mother. I think it's a splendid, old fashioned name.
This is my friend's name. I quite like it but I think it is a bit boring. She doesn't like it because it is quite common. If this was my name I would probably shorten it to Lulu, which sounds far more unique and fun.
Tired as a middle name, lovely as a first name.
My name is Louise, and what annoys me is how Louise is almost always used (well, in the cases I have heard it) as a middle name, or even double-barreled in a first name. I like my name, and would like it to be heard more often as a first name. :)
I love this name. I think it's very versatile and can be used for people of any personality, age, or social status. It's also very beautiful. It has a great meaning and Louise Brooks is a wonderful namesake.
It's very pretty, I admit, but the expression "Jeez Louise" has ruined it for me. :( Louisa is nice, though!
If you asked anyone born in and around 1990, you'll find a bloody lot of girls with the middle name Louise. It's ridiculous, hence I'm not overly fond of it.I've two cousins with the name Louise, and I really don't think it's that lovely. She does shorten it to Lulu, so I get the feeling she doesn't like it that much either.
My best friend's little sister is called Lucille Louise. I think that combination is very pretty, but I'm not really a fan of "Louise" for a first name. I personally like "Louisa" better.
This is my middle name, too. I think it's an OK name and was pleased to find out it was French as I love French names.
I think Louises tend to be sweet, elegant and natural.
My middle name is Louise. I've always thought of it as a middle name, loads of people have it.
I like this name, I find it sophisticated. I prefer it to Louisa.
This is my name and I love it. When I was younger I didn't like it and wanted to change it but I think I've grown into it and it suits me.
A charming, pretty name with real class!
I love this name. I used to think it was plain, but now I think it is probably the one of the best names you could get, unlike the modern and crappy ones that were wildly invented.
I agree with the above: it is everyone's middle name, including mine! I know at least 7 people (just off the top of my head) with this as a middle name. But it works well with a lot of different first names, and flows well as a first name with a lot of other names too. I prefer this to my first name, although together they sound OK: Natalie Louise.
I knew a girl named Louise many years ago, she always was called Wheezy and no she didn't wheez or anything. I find this name a bit plain.
Louise is my middle name. I was named for my mother. I never cared for the name Louise, until I learned that it meant "Battlemaiden". My first name, Kathleen, means "pure". As a Christian who believes in prayer and spiritual warfare, I like having a combined name that means "Pure Battlemaiden". I think it is divine providence.
This is my name and I must say it's kind of boring, but it will do.
My first name is Louise. Lots of my friends' middle names are Louise, but it dosen't matter because not many people I know have the first name. ;) Yay!
This is my cousin's name and it really suits her but I think it is nicer for a middle name like my sister Kayleigh Louise. For a first name the variant Louisa is better for a girl.
Not very pretty as a first name.
This is my mum's first name as well as the middle names of my Aunt Karen and her daughter Bethany and the middle name of my neice Brenna. I plan on using this as a middle name for one of my own girls some day.
This is really common a middle name. My middle name is this and is the middle name of a lot of my friends. I guess it just sounds good as a middle name. That's why my middle name is Louise. It sounds good!
This my name. I never really thought it was cool but no one else really has it. :D
My middle name. A bit on the boring side, but it does the job.
A beautiful, classic name. None of this made up crap you get nowadays!
