How could people hate on this name? Aesthetic and Ear-catching.
Makes me think of a black guy in his 40s or 50s. I can't imagine a white or Asian man with this name.
I like the name Malcolm. It has strength, and it sounds classy and modern at the same time. I also like the association with Malcolm in the Middle. In addition, I appreciate the potential nicknames, Mal and Mally. Overall, I think Malcolm is a beautiful name.
I hate this name. There, I said it. It just does not sound good to me. The "Mal" at the start and the "Cum" at the end just don't sit right with me. Sorry to anyone who has or likes this name, it is just not a good name.
We chose this name for our baby and get a lot of compliments. But I've been surprised by how many people omit the second L when spelling it. I didn't expect that at all. If you want a name that's never misspelled, this isn't the one.
I am sorry, but Malcolm is a truly horrible name and I can't for the life of me imagine a baby called Malcolm.
Don't like it because of its similarity to the Biblical false god Milcom.
To be honest, I can only think of Malcolm X whenever I hear this name, but the name is cool.
Malcolm is my name. I love it, but the amount of times people misspell it is really irritating.
Malcolm in the Middle immediately came to mind.
My brother's name is Colm and my cat's name is Malcolm. Malcolm completely adores my brother, totally fulfilling the meaning of "follower of Columba".
A great name!
I named my son Malcolm, he's 4 now... I love it.
I really love this name. It gives off a strong and masculine air to it.
I feel like this name needs to be reintroduced. I don't know many Malcolm's and I think it is very strong and masculine.
I would like to use the name Malcolm as maybe a third of fourth choice if I ever have that many sons. I like the combos Malcolm John, Malcolm Charles, and Malcolm James.
This sounds like a satanic name to me. It has unpleasant history.
Malcolm is one of my very favorite names for a boy. It's an adult name that isn't too heavy for a child to bear, plus you get the nickname "Mal" out of it.While Malcolm has a long history as a given name, I feel like really only two examples are readily remembered in contemporary parlance: Captain Malcolm Reynolds from the show "Firefly," and Malcolm X. The first is a fictional character from a cult classic sci-fi show, and the second is a "controversial" civil rights leader. I sincerely hope that the previous poster wasn't referring to Malcolm X when she was talking about the name's "unpleasant history," because honestly that's a racist implication - no point in dancing around the truth. It's a shame that Malcolm X's legacy has caused so many to regard Malcolm as a "scary" name.
Wow... "satanic". Really. I'd like to know the "unpleasant history" of which you speak. Anyways, back to rational commentary: I think Malcolm is a great name. Number one, I love it because of one of its most famous bearers Malcolm X. But, also it's a old-fashion name that you don't hear often.
Great name. Should be used more often.
I think Malcolm is a very nice name.
