Meaning & History

In the Greek myths Melampus was the cousin of Bellerophon and won glory and fame all because he was kind to animals. One day when he was a boy he saw some orphaned baby snakes by the side of the road. He gave the mother snake a proper burial and the baby snakes were so pleased they licked his ears so clean that he could hear animals speak.
