Meaning & History

The meaning and origin of the first element is rather uncertain: we know that it comes from muni, but we don't exactly know where muni itself comes from. But there are a few possibilities. It might come from Old Norse munr "pleasure, delight" (or "mind") or from Old Swedish munilîc "beautiful, loveable." Two other possibilities are Gothic munan "to think, to want" and muns (which comes from munis) "thought, will." The second element in the name comes from Gothic vulfs "wolf."
