Etymology uncertain, although it is speculated that Ninatta's name derives from Ninêt, the Amorite name for the city of Nineveh. Tentative links have also been made with a goddess identified as Ishtar of Ninêt. In Hurrian mythology, Ninatta is one of the handmaids of the goddess Šauška. She was always invoked as part of a dyad with the goddess Kulitta.
