Meaning & History

Derived from the Greek noun ὄφελος (ophelos) meaning "help, advantage" combined with the Attic Greek suffix -της (-tes), which forms nouns that represent a state of being.

This was the name of two characters from Greek mythology, one of which was a Paeonian soldier who was killed by Achilles during the Trojan War.
