Meaning & History

Means "the helpful one, beneficial one" from the root ὀφέλεια (opheleia) meaning "help, aid, benefit". Similar construction to names like Eupolemus or Theramenes. There were multiple figures in Greek Mythology that were named Opheltius. Opheltius the Trojan was a trojan solder slain during the war in Italy. Opheltius the Theban was one of the warriors from Thebes during the war of the Seven Against Thebes.
