Meaning & History
Possibly derived from Greek ὄρνις (ornis) meaning "bird, chicken". Also compare Greek ὄρνεον (orneon) meaning "bird" and the name Ornytion. In Greek mythology, Orneus was the son of king Erechtheus by Praxithea.
