I dislike nicknames like Pat. It sounds so boring and old, and I picture a Pat to be a stern history teacher in his sixties whose students hate him. If said Pat is a man and an old woman who the kids are scared of for a woman or a mean woman with no personality otherwise. Sorry to any Pats out there, surely you are wonderful people.

I have a cousin named Pat and a bad memory of her, so dislike the name on females. Since I'm Irish by ancestry, though, I think it's cute for a man to be called Pay. However, I now have a slightly negative feeling of that also, since I just read here that the name means tit in Scandinavian!

This name doesn't have any personality for me at all. The only reason I like it just a very, very little bit is Pat Gardiner - Lucy Maud Montgomery's character.

I know that this is just a nickname, but the word Pat kinda puts me off from the name.

Completely non-descript nickname from about 60 years ago. Uni-gender and seems lazy somehow. You might as well say "hey, you" as soon as call someone "Pat".

Pat means Boob in Danish (boobs = patter). Probably why this name doesn't work for me.

Yuck! This nickname makes me think of extremely unpleasant men like Pat Robertson and Pat Buchanan! It sounds quite silly anyway.

The first thing I think of when I hear the name Pat is a giant, feminist, lesbian. But that's just what I think.
