Meaning & History

The first element of this name is derived from either the Greek noun πεῖσα (peisa) meaning "obedience" or the Greek noun πεῖσις (peisis) meaning "persuasion". Both words are ultimately derived from the Greek verb πείθω (peitho) meaning "to persuade, to convince" as well as "to obey, to yield to" and "to believe, to trust (in)".

The second element of this name is derived from either the Greek verb ἀγορεύω (agoreuo) meaning "to orate, to speak publicly" or the Greek noun ἀγορά (agora), which can mean "assembly" as well as "market, marketplace".

Also compare the Greek name Peithagoras, which is closely related and essentially means the same.
