Variant of Pellehan, which may be derived from Welsh Beli Hen "Beli the Old". Pellam or Pellehan was one of the Grail-keepers in Arthurian tales, appearing in the 'Suite du Merlin'. This character was the father of Pelles and Pellinore, grandfather of Percival, and great-grandfather of Galahad. He was wounded by Balin with the Dolorous Stroke, and was henceforth known as the Maimed King. He was eventually healed by Galahad.https://web.archive.org/web/20160801180753/http://gorddcymru.org/twilight/camelot/bruce_dictionary/index_p.htm
