Meaning & History
Possibly derived from a Doric variant of φίλτατος (philtatos) meaning "very dear, much loved, especially beloved", a superlative form of φίλος (philos) meaning "lover, friend". Phintys was allegedy a Pythagorean philosopher who lived around the 3rd century BCE, though the works attributed to her might have been a rhetorical exercise by later authors.
