Meaning & History

The first element of this name is derived from either the Greek noun πύλη (pyle) meaning "gate, entrance" or from the name of the Greek town of Pylos (see Pylos), which is etymologically related to the aforementioned word. The second element of this name is derived from the Greek noun ἀνήρ (aner) meaning "man". As such, the meaning of this name is either "man at the gate, gatekeeper" or "man from Pylos".

In Greek mythology, Pylenor is the name of a centaur.
