It's VERY common, but I love the way it sounds. It's so masculine and strong, but at the same time so delicate. It's like the two syllables complete each other. The fierce impact of 'Ra' is resolved in the sweetness of the 'du', like in a V7-Imaj7 chord progression.

The brother of Vlad "Dracula" Tepes had the name Radu, as did many other leaders of Wallachia.
Of course, many of the other leaders not being as well known as the brother of "Dracula".
