Ruth means compassion. It stands for friendship and empathy.
Ruth... a classic Biblical name that is not used as much today as it deserves. If you want to be you-neek, yet classy rather than ignorant, name your daughter Ruth and forget about naming her Paizleigh or Kennidee. Be warned--your baby daughter will grow up into a senior citizen.
Hitchcock's Dictionary of Bible names lists the meaning of Ruth as "satisfied." Or, possibly, "fulfilled." Ruth, her husband Boaz and their son Obed are mentioned in the lineage of Jesus in Matthew 1:5.The Greek form of Ruth is as follows:
ρουθ
Ruth is also named as an ancestress of Christ in Matthew 1:5.In Greek, Ruth is written as follows:
ρουθ MATTHEW 1:5
And Salmon begat Booz of Rachab; and Booz begat Obed of Ruth; and Obed begat Jesse; In the Hebrew Old Testament, Ruth is written as follows:
רות
I have always heard that Ruth meant "peace."
Means "Compassion" in English as the antonym of the word ruthless. May also mean "Beloved" from the the word Hebrew word Rut.
