Meaning & History

Said to mean "sacred mountain"; the second part is identical with Armenian սար (sar) meaning "mountain". In Armenian epic tradition, Sanasar and his twin brother Baghdasar were the sons of Tsovinar. The titular hero, David of Sassoun, in the Armenian epic poem Sasuntsi Davit (David of Sassoun) was the grandson of Sanasar.
