It sounds dated, like a 50/60s name... Also I knew a dog with this name so it's hard to imagine it as a human name.
On July 2020, I made a comment about how great this Unisex name is and it STILL holds true to this day! I think the look and feel of this name just fits for both genders easily. A great name for a non-binary character.
Sandy could be a nickname for the male names Sanford, Sandford, Cassander and Lysander.
I feel like this name is very unisex and charming. The first Sandy that I ever met was a man. He was tall, had lightly-tanned, Caucasian skin, big muscles, strawberry blonde hair, and a smile on his face. Only recently have I met a woman named Sandy. I mostly think of Sandy Cheeks from (SpongeBob SquarePants) and that man I used to know. This is a strong-willed, but playful name for anyone.ETA: I was in 2nd grade at the time of the Sandy Hook shooting. My condolences for everyone who has been affected. For me, it instilled fear of going to school and trembling anxiety (even though I’m literally miles and miles away!). But, that doesn’t stop me from loving the name. I used to have problems with the name Adam, however.
Cute name. I feel like it has too many negative connotations in the United States to genuinely be used, though. Like another commenter said, when I hear Sandy, I think of the Sandy Hook shooting and hurricane Sandy. Use Sandra as a feminine alternative.
Reminds me of sand.
It’s okay on a girl, but it’s a little hard to imagine a boy named Sandy.
I was told that my dad suggested this name to my mum when they were thinking about names for me... so grateful that my mum disagreed! I would have hated it if this was my name.
I only came here to this name to see the banner.
Not good, not bad, just a simple name, maybe sounds a little bit too sweet, too soft, probably a better fit for a female name. For males it looks too soft. Good nickname for Sandra, but as a full name it feels childish.
I’d only use it for a cat.
I like it. So did Bruce Springsteen.
Sounds kind of ditzy and it's not very dignified. Also, the Spongebob character.
Hmm, I think it could be cute as a nickname for Cassandra. My previous comment still stands, however.
Not masculine whatsoever.
Reminds me too much of Hurricane Sandy and Sandy Hook.
I like it a lot!
Sandi or Sandie for a female. Those are more pretty.
This strikes me as a nickname for Alessandra, though not one I would use. It reminds me of a dirty-blonde girl that's WAY too spoiled.
I love Sandy as a nickname for Alexander. It's a bizarre name for a girl, and PLEASE don't spell it Sandi, Sandie, Sandye, etc., that's just mean.
In the movie identity theif, the main character is a man named Sandy. He gets teased for it and thinks its strange, but I personally like this name more for boys and had a feeling that it was originally masculine. For some reason, I like if for boys but hate it on girls!
Much prefer it as a boys name and the majority of people I know with this name are male, and the only girl I know spells it Sandi.
Sweet, gentle name. Prefer it spelled "Sandie" for a girl or woman.
Awful name. Anything that ends in "dy" is ugly. Andy, Mindy, Mandy, Candy. Gross. As a prostitute's alias - ok, as a first name - not ok at all. Even uglier when "y" is swapped with "i".
I like Sandy Cohen on The OC however I think this is not good for boys. A grown man needs a stronger and more masculine name.
I can't really see this name on guys anymore, it sounds very feminine and cutesy. It's a nice nickname for Sandra, which sounds a tad harsh, whereas this name has a soft sound to it. My associations to this name are quite negative, though. The name sounds like a mean high school girl name from the 90s, and the series Daria with its mean and manipulative character Sandy Griffin probably has a lot to do with that. On the other hand, it sounds like the name of someone a bit bubbly and ditzy.
I think Sandy is better as a guy's name than for a girl. I quite like it.
Sounds like the name of a horse.
I love this as a nickname for Alexander.
