This name derives from the Germanic “*sakhsan > sachs (Old English: sæx; Latin: sachsum)”, meaning “knife, short sword, dagger”. Saskia as flora is a painting by Rembrandt van Rijn portrait from 1634. The large painting shows Saskia van Uylenburgh in the role of flora, which was in Roman mythology the goddess of flowers and spring. The portrait is in the Hermitage in Saint Petersburg.
