Before 2019 I didn't know this name existed. But that changed when I got the game Miitopia, I needed to make characters. And more importantly, they needed names. Of course, me being the inexperienced writer I was back in the day, looked up a name generator and found myself here. I thought Japanese names sounded cool, so I started poking around and found the name Setsuko. I thought it had a nice ring to it and picked it without much thought. Over 3 years later and the character and her name have stuck with me to this day.
Setsuko was an extremely popular Japanese girl's name, spending several decades in the top 10. It was in the top 10 starting in the 1920s staying until the 1950s. It peaked at #2 in 1928 and stayed at #3 for many consecutive years (1930-1939). It left the top 10 after 1953.It was usually spelled 節子 and entered the top 10 in this spelling always.
Setsuko Inoue is a female Japanese former volleyball player who competed in the 1968 Summer Olympics.
Setsuko Hara was a Japanese actress. In the West, she is best known for her performances in Yasujirō Ozu's films Late Spring and Tokyo Story, although she had already appeared in 67 films before working with Ozu for the first time.
Setsuko Karasuma is an actress and model born on 3 February 1955 in Ōtsu, Shiga Prefecture, Japan. She attended Chukyo University, but left before finishing. She is employed by the From First Production talent agency. Her debut as a film actress came as she got the lead role in the 1980 adaptation of the Hiroyuki Itsuki novel Four Seasons・Natsuko.
This is the name of one of the characters in the Japanese Studio Ghibli movie "Grave of the Fireflies", which DEFINITELY is the saddest movie ever made. Setsuko is a little orphan girl who together with her older brother, Seita, have to survive during the WWII. I highly recommend it!
