Shervin is thought to have derived from the name of the city in the north of Iran, Shirvan. It literally means someone who came from Shirvan. 'Shir' in Persian means 'lion', and Shirvan had many lions, meaning anyone who went to Shirvan was brave. This is a predominantly masculine name, however it is also used in girls, with the suffix 'Dokht', ('Dokht' is short for 'Dokhtar', which is the Persian word for 'girl') therefore making it feminine.
