The name can also be written 紳司 (Shinji) derived from 紳 (shin, Go-On and Kan-On Reading) meaning "sire, good belt, gentleman" combined with 司 (ji, Kun Reading) meaning "an official, a director, a boss".The name can also be written 信史 (Shinji) derived from 信 (shin, Go-On and Kan-On Reading) meaning "trust, faith" combined with 史 (ji, On Reading) meaning "record, recording, history".
Shinji (紳司) Kawada (川田), born in 1971, is a Japanese voice actor. He works on eroge, under the name Wassyoi (ワッショイ) Tarou (太郎).Shinji (信史) Mimura (三村) was a fictional character in 1999 Koushun Takami's novel "Battle Royale".
For the longest time, anime fans have dreaded the name Shinji. And for good reason. Neon Genesis Evangelion's Shinji Ikari is such a depressed weenie that Hamlet is like "Dude, tone down the melancholy a bit." At least in the original anime series. In the more recent Rebuild of Evangelion anime films, he grows a spine (not to spoil too much). I credit this to creator Hideaki Anno finally getting over his depression.
