Starr

Very pretty and mystical or "nature girl"-sounding. The double-r turns a word into a name and almost suggests a slight resonance/reverberation.

Well I have read some of the comments on the name Starr. One comment stated it sounded like a porn name and they bet no professional person had that name. I’m here to tell you, you’re wrong. I am that said person, I am a nurse practitioner and never had a career in the porn industry. I happen to like my name and the way it is spelled.

My name is Starr my parents got it from the movie Lost boys but in my own words I think that the name Starr fits me perfectly as I'm a really friendly person! I even get called a shining star because I'm so bright! I think this name should be used more often!

Even though I don't exactly like Star, I'd probably prefer that over this.

Better as a surname.

I prefer Star. You can even do Estella, or Stella.

Tacky as all hell, this is easily one of the most if not the most white trash name I've ever come across. The extra R is just so unneeded & tacky. Why set up your kid for failure in life by giving them a word name that's just misspelled? I can guarantee you there are no doctors or lawyers named frickin' "StArR". It's such a pornstar name. I admit I do know one little girl named Starr with this spelling, she has a sister named "Skyy" and a brother named "Sunn" yuck. I asked her once how she feels about her name and she told me simply that she'd like it better if she didn't have to always correct people on how it was spelled. So straight from the horse's mouth, if you absolutely MUST give your baby a pornstar name, spell it right at least.

Use Starr if you like the surnames-to-names trend, use Star if you like word names. I personally am inclined towards the spelling of Starr, though I'm not sure why. Starr is a great name to honor a family name with. Both Star and Starr are excellent names, and I don't see them as tacky at all (though I see why one might consider them such).

When I was in grade school, the mayor of New Orleans was nicknamed "Moon". Most unfortunate. I especially hated being teased, "Starr and Moon are having a son." Since then, the name has really worked out for me. It is Dr. Starr now, and pediatric patients love it.

This is an awful, tacky name. Star is bad enough, but the extra r just pushes it over the tackiness level. If you can't tell why this is an awful name, then you probably have tacky taste. Sorry.

My mother has this name, and she loves it. No one ever forgets her name. I really like it too; I am currently fighting with my sibling over which of us will name our daughters Starr. For me, it gives the impression of someone brilliant and pretty, like a star.

While I like Star already, I can understand if someone were to think Star were a bit pretentious. Starr lessens like likelihood of that, which is why I'm actually fond of this spelling, as it can be given in honor of someone's surname.
