Tamsin

Never heard of this name before. I think it's pretty.

Meh, kinda brings up a Chavy British teen from the U.K., other than that it's not the worst name out there nor the best. I have to admit I kind of like it but it sounds too youthful.

Very strange name.

It is interesting to me that Tamsin is the contracted form of Thomasina. I have lived in California and Texas and have met 3 women named Tamsin (all unrelated and in their 60's and 70's) and all of them of European ancestry. I've also met several women and girls with the name Thomasina and they were all Mexican or Mexican-American. I always assumed Thomasina was a Spanish name not English. I don't think either name is a standout or one I would use.

I actually really like this name. It's simple and pretty. It's also unusual, but not tacky like some of the more trendy, modern names. Also, in what universe does this name sound like Tampon?

I've just discovered this name, and I've fallen in love with it! I'm from America, where the name is extremely rare, virtually unheard of. I don't know any Tamsins personally, but I first encountered the name when reading about British actress Tamsin Greig. I don't want kids, but if I did have a daughter, I'd likely name her Tamsin. It's a lovely name in my opinion.

As a Tamsin Louisa I am mostly called Tamsy or Tamsylou… I am also Cornish... love my name!

Also I feel like this name sounds a little masculine to my ears, but I like this name for both.

There is nothing wrong with Thomasina as the feminine form of Thomas. I actually dislike Tamsin as the feminine form of Thomas. It looks nothing like Thomas, no offense, just my personal opinion. That doesn’t mean Tamsin is ugly, but Thomasina is a pretty name too. I am down for forced feminization of male names!

Unfortunately my only link with this name and its forms is The Butcher in 'American Horror Story: Roanoke' (Thomasin/Tomasyn White). Not usable in my case.

Thomasina is gross, clunky, and it seems like it tries to hard to be feminine. Tamsin is much better. It sounds youthful yet will probably age gracefully, and it isn't common.

My name is Tamsin and I have also felt so unique and happy to have this as my name. I agree it can be easily mistaken for Jasmin, Tazmin and most commonly Tasmin, but there are many good reasons to be named Tamsin. You will constantly get people commenting on your name and saying how pretty it is, you will rarely get confused with someone else at your school and just accept that you might be called Tasmanian devil sometimes! I'm grateful to my parents for giving me such a beautiful name and I enjoy it everyday :)!

Tamsin is my name, and for as long as I can remember, I have been called Tasmin, which honestly feels like the shittiest thing in the world. I hated my mum for calling me this, but I have to say, it is better than what she was going to name me, which was Siobhán. It always annoys me when I have to correct people on my name, so since I was 10, I've been going by different nicknames, from TimTam to Tammy to (the current one) Taz. I wish I didn't have to do this, but I guess that I've just decided to put up with the fact that the human race is too lazy to read properly.

My name is Tamsin, & as a child I loved my name as everyone would say 'oh, what a beautiful name you have!' Then during my school years I got teased and wished I had a more common name, however, now I'm older, I appreciate it, the uniqueness of it. I love my name, it's pretty & I see people who have made vulgar comments about the name haven't the guts to say their own.
People do however constantly call me Tasmin (which I hate) so with family and friends I'm shortened to Tams or Taz!
My mother says she named me Tamsin as it was a character's name in a book she read as a teenager, which would have been the 70's. But she can't recall the name of the book, much to her disappointment! If anyone knows of a book where one of the main character's name is Tamsin, please comment! (Long shot, I know! But, you never know...!) I should love to read it, the reason for being called Tamsin. I've never met anyone who's disliked my name, occasionally I get, 'oh that's unusual, what a pretty name you have!' And it is a beautiful name, "cheers" to all the the other unique and wonderful 'Tamsins' out there! :)

Tamsin is a very cute, unique name. I imagine a friendly person with this name. ^_^

I think the name is both sweet and intelligent. Yet I would never choose it for an actual child for the same reason someone above mentioned... It is too close to "tampon."

Thomasina sounds elegant and classy.
Tamsin sounds tacky, like the name of an anorexic model wannabe who picked this name to sound 'unique' (though someone like that would probably spell it 'Tammzynne' or similar to take the tackiness level up to a hundred).
If you really like this name, it's probably better to name your daughter Thomasina, with the option of Tamsin as a nickname.

My name is Tasmin, and I get this, Tasmine, Jasmin, Jasmine, Jazzmine, Tazmin, Tassmin. You name it, I get it. Hardly anyone spells it right the first time. Or the second time.

Anyways, I kinda like my name better than Tamsin, but Tamsin is the main character in a book called Once a Witch by Carolyn MacCullough.

Wow, this is a name I've never heard of. It has a nice British ring to it. It's not ugly; in fact I think of a character who is strong, assertive, funny, loyal and a bit crazy, but it all adds up.

Very ugly, I guess. Thomasina is kind of better even though they're both ugly & strange. Nickname Tammy just annoys me. Thomie could work.

Tamsin does not sound like tampon!

I like this name a lot and it certainly isn't overused in the US. I first heard of it in high school. Character named Tamsin, short for Thomasin, in the novel The Return of the Native which we read. Don't like the nickname Tammy though.

This is my name as well. I think it's ok, my mother named me it as it meant twin on the version she learned. But I also get people making mistakes - most common is Tasmin. Which is not nice! And if people have to shorten it, it's shortened to Tams, as I don't like Tammy!

I really like Tamsin, but I don't like the possible nickname of Tammy. I would probably use Sunny as a nickname.

Yuck! What a hideous name!

This is my name! A bother in school, because I always get the question of, 'What's that, again?' and it's terrible when it comes to spelling, even though it's pretty straight forward. I get it taken as Jasmin, Tasmin, Tamara, Jasmina, Tasmania (the worst), etc.

Tamsin is a very pretty, sweet sounding name.

I think Tamsin is really nice. I think it's way better than Thomasina, 'cause it just has a sweeter sound.
