Meaning & History
Originated as the pen name of distinguished Australian novelist, journalist and feminist Jessie Couvreur (1848-1897), who was raised and educated in Tasmania, and took her pen name from the name of the island state. This is named after the Dutch explorer Abel Tasman.The name is found outside Australia, but apparently only after "Tasma" began her international writing career.
