I saw a longer variant on the show "Finding Your Roots"; writer David Sedaris found that his paternal third great-grandfather, Elias Sideris (1780-?, in Apidia, Laconia, Greece) lost his daughter, Anastasoula (1805-?), in the Greek War of Independence in 1825 when Ibrahim Pasha, at the behest of the Ottoman Empire, arrived in Apidia to crush the Greek resistance; Ibrahim Pasha took many captives as slaves, including Anastasoula Sideris, then aged 20 years (likely married and a mother).
David Sedaris himself seemed shaken that his second great-aunt had been taken hostage and most likely sold into sexual slavery like many of the women captured by Ibrahim Pasha.
