Meaning & History

Derived from Taulantii, which is the latinized form of Ταυλάντιοι (Taulantioi), the Greek name for a cluster of Illyrian tribes that lived on the Adriatic coast of Illyria (modern Albania). Their name is thought to be connected to the modern Albanian noun dallëndyshe (also tallandushe) meaning "swallow". However, according to ancient Greek mythology, these tribes derived their name from their eponymous ancestor Taulas.

A notable bearer of this name is the Albanian professional soccer player Taulant Xhaka (b. 1991).
