Tetsuya

Renowned pioneer meteorologist Ted Fujita was born in Japan under the name Fujita Tetsuya. His study of the damage from the nuke dropped on Nagasaki led to our modern understanding of microbursts, derechos and wind damage. He designed and gave his name to the Fujita scale, which is used to estimate tornadic windspeeds based on the damage the tornado leaves behind. His work directly saved many thousands of American lives, and has led to the saving of many times more lives from storm and wind related events around the world.
