Means "divine-sounding, divinely uttered, oracular" or "prodigious, wondrous, mighty; awful, terrible, horrible", a variant form of Ancient Greek θεσπέσιος (thespesios), composed of θεός (theos) meaning "divine; god, deity" and a form of ἐνέπω (enepo) meaning "to tell, tell of, speak". Thespius (also called Thestius) was the king and founder of the ancient city of Thespiae in Greek mythology, who challenged Heracles to kill a lion in exchange for sleeping with his fifty daughters.
