Toru is one of the popular boys name of Japan. Never used girl's name in real life. Same meaning in girls one should be Sumi or Sumiko or Masumi. I love this name, it is such a beautiful one. I'm surprised it's only masculine because it really sounds like a girl's name. Speaking of which, there are a couple famous female bearers of this name, including Tohru Honda (本田 透, Honda Tōru) from Fruits Basket, and Tohru Kobayashi (小林トール Kobayashi Tōru) from Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon, both with the romaji spelling "tohru".
