Meaning & History

Derived from Georgian ცისმარა (tsismara) or ცისმარე (tsismare) meaning "long, lifelong". Also compare the related Georgian adjective ცისამარა (tsisamara), which roughly means "single day, whole day".

All of the words mentioned above are compound words, of which the first element consists of Georgian ცის (tsis) meaning "of the sky". The second element appears to be derived from (or related to) the Georgian adverb მარად (marad) meaning "always, eternally, forever". Also compare the Georgian adjective მარადიული (maradiuli) meaning "eternal, everlasting" and the archaic Georgian adverb მარადღე (maradghe) meaning "every day".

In summary, one could say that a more literal meaning of these words (and by extension this name) is perhaps "infinity of the sky".
