Valeri Karpin is a Russian professional association football manager and a former player who played as midfielder. He was primarily a right midfielder.
Valeri Kharlamov was an ice hockey forward who played for CSKA Moscow in the Soviet League from 1967 until 1981. Kharlamov was widely considered one of the best players of his era, as well as one of the greatest players of all time. Although small in stature, Kharlamov was speedy, intelligent and skilled. He is also known for scoring one of the most memorable goals in NHL history. He received a pass and scored while spinning in mid-air. The goal was used in the opening intro for the NHL 98 video game.
Famous gymnast Valeri Liukin bears this name. He is the father of Nastia Liukin and husband of Anna Liukin. He was the first gymnast to do a triple back on floor, competed in the 1988 Olympics and now coaches at the WOGA gym in Plano, Texas.
