Cool name, such a shame it was ruined by the Varg Vikernes case.
It is also the modern Swedish word for wolf - pronounced "varj".
It is different from the old Nordic word for wolf (ulv/ulf), because many centuries ago, it came to the point when people were so afraid of mentioning the wolf, for fear that it would come and get them, that they instead started using the word for criminals = varg (source not confirmed, take it with a grain of salt).
The Varg Vikernes connotation is enough to ruin it for anyone, especially in Scandinavia where he is more known. Sounds like the name immature 'true' black metal fans would give their son.
As in musician Varg Vikernes [Mayhem, Burzum].
Possibly some unpleasant connotation stemming from this. Too bad; it's a cool name.
