I love astronomy names! This is beautiful.
Cool!
It's cool!
Really really pretty but too trendy in Spain, especially in Salamanca City.
My name is Vega. I love how my parents named me this. It's such an unusual name at all the schools I have gone to. A lot of people would call me Las Vegas, that being the first thing that pops to mind but I'm okay with that. Vega is more used as a last name although I have never met anyone with that last name I have looked it up. I enjoy having this name because it is one of a kind.
Vega means 'of the meadow' or 'people of the meadow' or even 'grass land'. It's also in the book of Romans for the gospel is written in the stars. Vega stands for 'he shall be exalted and it's believed that the original Vegas in Spain were from Jerusalem in 90ad. The Romans exiled Jews out and many went to Spain and then carried on the name Vega. I am a Vega decedent from the original Vegas from Spain so I have done a lot of research I've never heard of it as a falling star, it is however the fifth brightest star in the sky and the second brightest in the northern hemisphere. It lies in the constellation of Lyre.
As a child I had an imaginary friend called Susanna Vega Anastasia Lilja (lily). Anastasia was from Lois Lowry's books and I guess Susanna Vega was inspired by singer Suzanne Vega! I think Vega is a very beautiful name.
The first thing I think of when I hear this name is not Las Vegas, but Vincent Vega from "Pulp Fiction". And then the actress Alexa Vega. And the Diego de la Vega, a.k.a. "Zorro".
For me, this works much better as a last name than someone's first name.
Oddly enough, in opposition to some comments here, I'd think "Vega" to be more slutty than "Star". I guess the consonant-vowel combinations of both names really do have different effects on me.Hence, you can imagine my shock on discovering that Vega is another name for Zhin¨¹ (֯Ů in Chinese, meaning "weaver girl") in a beautiful Chinese myth that links her and Altair (called the Cowherd, or Niulang [Å£ÀÉ]) as lovers that were forbidden to be together. An ugly name with a beautiful meaning? I'll personally go with Zhin¨¹, thank you very much!
For some reason I loved this name as soon as I heard of it. It's astronomical with connections with Arabic, Spanish and Latin. Vega. None of the people I told it to liked it. It would suit a girl with a strong personality, I reckon.
I love this name. It's pretty and unusual.
Like the above user said, this name means "meadow" in Spanish. It's pretty cool, and Las Vegas isn't the first thing that comes to my mind.
It's a pretty cool name, but it reminds me of Las Vegas. I'm afraid the name sounds a bit tacky, that being the main reason. Lyra sounds prettier and more poetic. This is still a pretty name, though.
What a wonderful name. Forget the name Star. That's tacky. Go with Vega instead. Same meaning. Way fewer slutty stigmas attached.
I like this name a lot; it's unusual and very pretty.
Taking away any association with Las Vegas, I love this name.
