I really like this name! It’s short and chic, equally elegant and cute, it works well on a child and ages very well, unique but not unfamiliar— it’s a lovely choice :) I think it’s awfully rude and antiquated to dismiss it as a ‘stripper name’, no offense to any other commenter or anyone who dislikes this name.
A fictional bearer of this name is Velvet Scarlatina, a minor character from 3D animated webseries RWBY.
This was on my (future) baby name list when I was like 15. It’s not really my style anymore but I think it would be cool to meet someone named Velvet. I also just think it looks cool, the double V’s is unusual in a name. Veve/VV is an obvious nickname. And I also think it would make a really standout middle name.

I find Velvet super cute! Both as a first and middle name.
I really like it as a name for fictional characters in a fantasy setting. It could even be nice for a pet. But for a regular person, I'm not as keen.
Not suitable for a non-sleazy woman. It is an okay name for a dog, though- a family member had a little mixed breed named Velvet, and it was a fine name for her.
Velvet was a fashion doll manufactured by the Ideal Toy Corporation in the 70s.
I love it for a human; sounds to me unique and attractive rather than tacky and stripperish. The only downside is that it can make me think of a certain... body-part word... but not usually! ^u^
Sounds tacky as a name.
This would be a good name for a cat.
Yet another tacky stripper name. I think Velvet should stay on the fabric.

Adorable for a pet cat. A human? Not so much unless it's a middle name. :)

Stripper name.
I like it, actually, but only as a middle name.

I find it very tacky to name your daughter after a kind of fabric.
