Meaning & History

This name is often encountered as a variant form of Wigbrand and Witbrand. However, it can also be a name in its own right, in which case its first element is derived from either Old High German wîh meaning "holy, sacred" or from Old High German wîp meaning "woman". As with the aforementioned names, the second element of the name is derived from Old Norse brand meaning "sword".
