Winfried (Wynfreth) is the original name of Bonifatius (about 672 - about 754), the "Apostle of the Germans".
"Winfried" originally means "Friend of Peace" as the name is composed of the old German words "wini" (Friend) and "fried" (Peace).
Wynfreth was an English monk, born in Sussex in the 7th century, who was later given the name Bonefatius by the pope and is known as the Apostle of the Germans.
