This is quite a nice name.
I think Zelda is an absolutely gorgeous and otherworldly name. I don't mind the video game association.
It seems like the classic wicked-witch kind of name, and to me, seems cool theoretically, however in execution--I'm not sure it quite sounds that nice. The 'Z' and the 'd' combine to make a very harsh sound, and even though I really want to like it, it's just not very aesthetically pleasing to me. (no offense meant to anyone named Zelda)
Amazing and powerful! Totally recommend!
This name is synonymous with The Legend of Zelda now but that is not a bad thing! She is one of the most recognizable princesses/heroines of video games and pop culture. Princess Zelda also is noted to be an intelligent and determined woman, so anyone named Zelda should feel proud!
Legend of Zelda. It’s a cool name but I would never use it.
Beautiful ❤️❤️! So classic and glamorous.
I named my youngest daughter Zelda Sage. She was born a preemie 6 weeks early so she is definitely a true warrior and as for the Nintendo association, I like it because to me the name now means warrior princess and that is exactly what she is.
This probably sounds really weird, but I think the association with the video game makes this name even cooler. LoZ is a great series and Princess Zelda is beautiful. :3.
I just think of the video game.
Because of the game Zelda, people think Link is Zelda, and those people may think Zelda is a masculine name.
So would that be a bad thing? in fact, it would be so refreshing if guys were given a girl names for once.
Everyone, I have the pleasure of a beautiful name that I grew into. My mother was an American literature buff and when she was young, indicated to friends that when she grew up she would have a daughter named Zelda and a son named Scott. And so we are. I have grown into the name to be a writer, more so professionally as a technical writer but, I have a juicy novel in me to write. Perhaps my brother cannot say the same, but he is doing well on his own with a different surname that reminds people of Rockefeller, or Rothschild! Not a bad connotation right? Yes, I have read all the F.Scott Fitzgerald novels and have found myself living close to locations he lived. I had the pleasure of having a fit on the bridge along the Seine...I couldn't help it. Fortunately, my friend went along. It was delightful to act it out. For others who are named Zelda, it does mean princess in Yiddish. The original derivation is Sarah which is Hebrew. Toodles to all you Zeldas! [noted -ed]
This is one of my favorite names of all. It's pretty, powerful, spunky, and fiery. Older people will be familiar with the name, due to it being a classic, and the younger generation will associate it with the video game. If I named my child this, her full name would be Zelda Dawn.
It doesn't sound like a real name, but I think it is a cool name.
We named our daughter Zelda and I still love the name. It suits her and we only receive positive comments. Absolutely no regrets. It's a strong name with a lot of character. I imagine people in my family thought it an odd choice. My mom even tried to talk me out of it since it reminded her of an annoying character from a 1960s sitcom ("The Many Loves of Doby Gillis"?). Anyway, I think the name has since grown on her. I am a bit concerned that the name might become too popular in the States. We've lived in Germany for the past several years and I have yet to encounter another Zelda, though I think there are a handful out there. Other similar names are popular here like Stella, Tilda, and Frieda. It's funny that some people only know the name from the video game. Two summers ago at the St. Louis Zoo, a couple of twenty-somethings heard me call my daughter "Zelda" and I think I overheard them say something like, "They actually let them name her that?"
This is my first name, and I've always liked it. The LoZ association actually makes it better to me.
Zelda is honestly a really awesome name, one of the few names I would choose from a video game as well as Rosalina. Sadly, I do have a cousin named Griselda so I think it may be too close to her name but it’s still really cool and could be different enough to get the pass. I guess Zelda is that one name for me that I like based on my inner nerd, that being video games, with my friend being a history nerd and adores Alexandria, but he has a niece with the similar Alexandra, so that’s also out of the question for him.
It's classic and strong. Even if people do think of Princess Zelda, she is a pretty good character.
Anyway, to me, this name gives the impression of a confident person, though she seems like the type who wouldn't like her name.
This is one of the few names that I prefer as a full name rather than a nickname.
Very pretty. I don't like Griselda, in fact I almost hate it, but Zelda has appeal in it.
I named my blonde-haired daughter Zelda and we get nothing but compliments. It is a strong name with one foot in vintage glam and the other in modern spunk. As gamers ourselves, we don't mind the video game association, but it makes me think more of the roaring twenties and Zelda Fitzgerald.
My friends named their daughter this, and I'll admit, my first reaction was "As in the legend of?" But they named her for Zelda Fitzgerald and I can't imagine any other name for their little girl (she is 4 now).
Zelda is such a pretty name! It's quite sad that people associate it with a video game! Zelda is one of my favorite names, because it's old fashioned and rare. It's got an aura of mystery and flappers, thanks to Zelda Fitzgerald.
There's nothing wrong with people thinking of the video game when they hear the name. Thanks to the princess, I think of beauty, wisdom, kindness, and grace when I hear it. The bad thing would be that people would think of Link when they hear it.
It's a really nice name, but unfortunately most people will probably immediately think of The Legend of Zelda.
This name is so beautiful, and much better then the name its derived from, Griselda. It reminds me of a beautiful fairy, or princess, thanks to the Legend of Zelda connection, which I like. I also love the connection to Zelda Fitzgerald.
I really like this name. It's spunky and uncommon.
This name is beautiful and unique. It does seem a bit hard to see a modern child with this name, but it always makes me think of the Zelda game series, which is a plus.
I really love this name, not just because I love the Zelda game series.
This name sounds unique and futuristic--and it reminds me of gold. I can totally see a spunky toddler Zelda as well as a teenager and older woman. Love this name :)
Cool and exotic name.
I like this name, but I always think of the video game character when I see it.
I really like this name. My mother said her parents were considering naming her Zelda, but she got Alison. Very interesting, considering the uniqueness of one and how plain the other is.
I think this is a very strong yet elegant name for a girl. Despite the Legend of Zelda association, I quite like it.
I really like the name but can't stop thinking of "The Legend of Zelda" video game.
A favorite amongst all the game nerds, who unfortunately will never have kids in order to use it. Haha, I'm just teasing, I have to admit, it is a very pretty name. Me likes. :]
I love this name. It's got to be the classiest name apart from the Legend of Zelda games. I love watching my brothers play that game. It's that kind of name that can either make or break the graceful princess, the sweet book nerd or a mischievous fairy. I guess you can say the name's versatile!
Zelda is the ugliest name I have ever heard.
Yes! Pet Semetary is all I think of when I hear this name. That and Sabrina the Teenage Witch. I always found the idea of two siblings called "Rachel" and "Zelda" strange though, for some reason. I would kind of like to see this name make a comeback, but I would never personally use it.
This name reminds me of Zelda from the legend of Zelda games.
What a cool name. Very exotic.
Zelda is one cool name.
Hehehehe. A fairy with a bag full of evil? Yeah, maybe. For it me it just reminds me of The Legend Of Zelda. Maybe that's because I LOVE it. Ah, but I would sadly not name a child this. She might get ridiculed because of that. "Look who it is Princess Zelda! Have you found your Link (that's the hero of the series) yet"? Well, I might change my opinion later on. I met lots of people who know Mario (you know Mario). But when I mention Zelda, "Zelda who?". That's my opinion. If you want to name a child Zelda go ahead. It's your choice. Not mine.
This sounds like a dark fairy's name that has an bag of tricks and evil.
Absolutely adore this name.
I like this name! It's not a very common name and it just totally rocks.
