Latinized form of ZOILOS. This was the name of a Greek Cynic philosopher (4th century BC) who was notorious for unfairly harsh criticism. Other famous bearers include an Indo-Greek king (2nd century BC) and a saint martyred in Córdoba (Spain) during the persecutions of the Roman emperor Diocletian.
