Combination of Clara and the popular name suffix bel. This name was used by Edmund Spenser in his poem The Faerie Queene (1590; in the form Claribell) and by Shakespeare in his play The Tempest (1611). Alfred Lord Tennyson also wrote a poem entitled Claribel (1830).
