Meaning & History

From the Catalan title of the Virgin Mary, Mare de Déu de Farners, meaning "Mother of God of Farners," the name of a sanctuary located at the foot of Farners Castle in the Selva municipality of Santa Coloma de Farners. The place name may have come from a shortening of Catalan molins fariners meaning "flour mills."
