Meaning & History

Probably from the Japanese kanji (Kun reading sawa) "mountain stream" or "marsh, swamp; wetlands". This kanji can also be pronounced TAKU (Kan'on reading) or Jaku (Goon reading).

This name is notable as being borne by the fictional Sawa, the orphaned heroine of the influential 1998 anime "A カイト" ("Kite").
