Meaning & History

This was the name of the first king of the Bebryces tribe in eastern Bithynia (northwestern Anatolia) in Greek legend, the son of POSEIDON and the nymph MELIA. When the Argonauts passed through his territory, Polydeuces managed to defeat Amycus boxing. It is probably associated with Latin #amicus# "friend".
