[Opinions] Clare for a boy?
I had a dream last night, and I met these three little brothers, ranging from maybe 5-8 years old. The littlest one was named Clare, and he was so cute it reminded me that I actually like Clare (this spelling only) for a boy almost as much as I like Claire (this spelling only) for a girl. One of his brothers was named Farter. Yeah, I know. The kid thought it was pretty funny...he kept singing songs about farting. I can't remember what the eldest brother's name was, although I remember thinking in my dream, "I should remember what all of their names are so I can tell the folks at BtN."~ Caitlín

Heh. Actually, I went through a brief spell of liking Clare for a boy. I read the name in a book, on a male character, and I found it quite charming. I think it could work as a NN for Clarence. (The only reason I'm out of said "brief spell" is because I really adore Clara for a girl, though it's not necessarily first on my list. And my mother doesn't appear to like Clare on a boy much, either.)Though, I must say, Farter has some serious charm. If I do say so, it's much nicer than Clare. I'd keep it. ;)

I knew a boy named Clare that I met at camp once (years and years ago). I had a little crush on him. I'm not sure how it was spelled.

Clare and Claire are strictly girl names to me - much too feminine for a boy. In Life With Father, Clarence is nicknamed Clare, so I guess in that respect it would work, but I don't care for Clarence, as it reminds me of the word clearance.

Clair used to be a boy name in France, it's not awfully outdated. Clare is nmsaa (seems misspellt to me). I like Claire and Clarence for a girl only.

I adore Clare for a girl or a boy. Claire does nothing for me. My great-grandfather was a Robert Clair, which I think sounds horribly romantic. :)I would use Clare as a nickname for Clarence--again, on either gender. Clarence is one of my guilty pleasure names, and while I wouldn't be likely to use it, I like the sound on either sex.I just had a dream in which I had twins named Virginia Imogene and Scarlet Eugenie. Blech. ;)Array

I like the Clare spelling for a girl, but I suppose it could work as a boys' middle name._____________________________________________________________________"You are never given a wish without also being given the power to make it true."Elinor

Lol, Farter is hilarious. I can't see Clare on a boy however, although I know it has been used as a masculine name.
