What do you think of the name Rowan for a boy?
Rowan is one of my semi-favorites for a boy. I was thinking about this name today when I heard someone mention that they like it for a girl. Rowan is NMSAA for a girl, but I like it for a boy. Remember, I won't let a few girls with a name stop me from using it on a boy!

I like it. I always think of Rowan Atkinson when I hear it

Rowan is on my favourites list for both boys and girls. My preference is for a female, but yes, it makes for a good male name.
This might sound strange, but I probabably wouldn't like Rowan in your context, because I'd assume you'd chosen it on principle (its being unisex), and to me that's a bad reason for choosing a name.

I like Rowan on its own, and not simply because it's a "unisex" name.

Well, the fact that it's "unisex" can't be argued. (I read the inverted commas as implying it's *not* actually unisex, which it clearly is: it's widely used on both sexes, and that's that. Sorry if that's not what you meant.)
Fine if you like Rowan in its own right. But because of the emphasis you put on the gender question in your post, and your stance on this in general, I'd still assume you were using it to make a point. I just think that's a bad reason for choosing a name.

I like it. Probably not something I'd ever actually use but I do like it and I don't see it as feminine.

Only like this name for a boy myself. It's not a girly name at all.

Personally, I like Rowan for a girl and Roan for a boy.

Like most on this board, I think, I love Rowan and for a boy only. I hope the trend of using it for a girl is short-lived. :b

Rowan is nms but it's a perfectly fine name. I prefer it on a boy, er, man.
I'm too lazy to think of a clever signature.

I like Rowan a lot for a boy. I used to dislike it for a girl but now I can see the appeal. But I still prefer it on a boy.

I like it for a boy, though not well enough to ever actually consider it over other favorites. I am somewhat ambivalent to it on a girl, it doesn't actually bother me the way some boy on girl names do, but I am definely not keen on it, and certainly prefer it on a boy than a girl.

I love Rowan for a boy! It's one of my top five. I agree that it is nmsaa for a girl. I think I'd use it for a boy, too, if I still like the name years from now.

To me, Rowan is truly unisex, as I don't think it has a predominately masculine or feminine trait. The Row is masculine to me, and the an is feminine to me (go figure). But, I have seen/heard it more on girls, as of late.
Anyway, if someone (like you) asked if I liked it for a boy, I'd say, "No, as I don't think it's masculine enough." Then, if someone asked if I liked it for a girl, I'd say, "No, as I don't think it's feminine enough."
So, I don't really like it for either gender.

Edit 2: I must need glasses, as I totally confused Debra Messing's son's name! LOL.

It's an okay name. I actually prefer the spelling Rohan...it somehow seems a little less hippy-ish that way. ^ ^
