[Opinions] Frances . . .
What do you think of the name Frances? I've had it on my mind lately and I'm really starting to see some charm in it. I think I prefer Frances in full, though Fran isn't too bad. I don't really care for Frankie (in general I don't care for boyish nick names on girls, though some folk pull it off very well), and Fannie - while a guilty pleasure of mine - has that unfortunate . . . fanny connection. Opinions?

Frances is my sister's name. I've always liked the sound of it for a girl....

I like it, and it's a nice name that's not as common as it used to be. However, I wouldn't use it because it's the name of Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love's daughter (and where the hell did they get Bean?).

I love Frances. It was my late Mom's name so that has something to do with it but I find Frances refined, sweet and rather elegant.Fanny/ Fannie makes me think Fannie Flagg and Fannie Mae (which has been in the headlines recently). I've never called my ...fanny that, ever, so I rearely make the connection unless someone mentions it. My Mother went by Francie which is easily my favorite of the Frances nicknames. Frankie makes me think Sinatra or my Uncle. All make ti me, Frank/Frankie is.

I think it makes a great middle name. I would use it thus because it would honor a grandmother.I do think it has a sort of old fashioned charm. I'm not too keen on any of the nicknames though. Frankie is nice in my head, but when I think about it in real life, I don't think I like it that much. I know a Frances about 19 who goes by Frannie.

My name is Frances, and I get Franny, Fran, Frankie, Franners and my boyfriend sometimes calls me Cess, which I quite like! It's an easy name to grow up with and while not very common at all (at least where I live, apart from when used as a middle name), it's still familiar and easy to spell. I've always loved my name and I'd love to see it used more. Francesca is lovely too, and it's starting to become more popular. I don't know about the nickname Fannie / Fanny... especially in Australia where the slang meaning is different to the U.S. I much prefer Franny to Fanny.

I love Frances, with the occasional nickname Francie. It's one of those often-used middle names that is so underappreciated as a first name. :)

I only like Frances as a middle name.

I should like it but I just don't. Many people say it will make a comeback but I don't think so. It just doesn't have a nice sound. It lost places compared to last year and is almost out of the top 1000 so I think Frances is just one of those names that won't come back. Francesca might, though. I think Fanny is charming but I guess it wouldn't really work. Frankie is ok. I dislike Frannie and especially Fran.

I LOVE Frances with the nickname Fanny/Fannie. It's not overly frilly, nor is it too boyish. It's just right. There is that unfortunate Fanny-connection, but I can't help but find Fanny/Fannie utterly charming.
